Galatea
Here's
an example of a clipper ship, Galatea, named for a character
of mythology and illustrated accordingly. That's Galatea
plunging into the water; her lover Acis lies dashed under a
rock, courtesy of a jealous Polyphemus.
Good
news, though! Galatea, a goddess, changed the badly bleeding
Acis into a river, so he "lived" after all.
This card
was printed by George Nesbitt of New York, and is shown at
80 percent of actual size.
