When
the Stump Speaker bank was issued in 1886, Reconstruction
(officially ended by the Compromise of 1877) was a
not-too-distant memory. This bank may have been playing to
the turbulence and bitterness of that period. This
Courier Litho card is quite colorful, and has a certain
comic appeal as well. It's shown here at 85 percent of
